Why Mini Farmer's Market Drive-Thrus?
|
Our Mini Farmer's Market Drive-Thrus began during the pandemic, almost by accident. Like so many farms, we suddenly had beautiful produce but fewer packing houses and pickers available to help move it before it spoiled. So we brought our harvest home and invited neighbors to pre-order. To keep everyone safe, guests simply pulled into our driveway, stayed in their cars, and we'd hand their fresh produce right through the window.
What started as a practical solution quickly became something we never expected. We met so many wonderful people—far more than we ever had before. In fact, before the drive-thrus, the only time we'd regularly meet our neighbors was when one of our dogs escaped on an adventure and someone kindly walked him back home! Suddenly, we had a whole community stopping by every couple of weeks, sharing recipes, stories, and smiles. When life returned to normal, we realized we didn't want this tradition to end. Today, every avocado season we host our biweekly Mini Farmer's Market Drive-Thrus, along with the occasional dinner, boutique, or special event. We love creating new treats and homemade goodies to share, and more than anything, we love the people who come to visit. Whether you've lived down the street for years or are making your very first stop from a different city over, we don't think of you as a customer—we think of you as a neighbor and a friend. |
About Our Resident Jam MasterDina Reisman, affectionately known around here as "The Wizard," is the jam mastermind behind every jar we make. What began as a practical way to rescue the overflowing plums from the tree in her backyard soon blossomed into a something much bigger when her enthusiastic husband bought a farm and planted more berry bushes than any reasonable family could possibly eat!
Years and countless batches later, she's perfected her craft, transforming peak-season fruit into jams that capture the very best flavors of the harvest. Dina reports that the secret to her extraordinary jam truly is the quality and freshness of the produce. Her personal favorites? Raspberry as her top pick, and then apricot. Of course, even wizards have their moments. Dina's silliest jam mishap happened while making mint jelly, one of the few jellies that traditionally gets a splash of food coloring. On autopilot, she reached for the wrong bottle and ended up with brilliant blue mint jelly instead of green! It tasted just as delicious, but it certainly gave everyone a good laugh. Jam Making Classes Available! We offer small, private jam making classes in which you can learn to make your very own canned jams, chutneys, and other goods hands on with the jam master, Dina, herself! Classes are one-day and available seasonally depending on what produce is available. We hold these courses in Fillmore, Woodland Hills, and Ventura. Please inquire on our contact page if you're interested in developing jaw dropping jam making skills that your friends and family will become quickly obsessed with!

Avocado Craze!!
|
We're not entirely sure when the world became obsessed with avocados and avocado toast.... but we get it. We've adored them for ages! Sure, avocados are packed with heart-healthy monounsaturated fats, fiber, potassium, and vitamins that help support overall health. And they're also incredibly satisfying and can help your body absorb more nutrients from the other fresh foods you enjoy with them. But Steve often attests that one of his main reasons for planting 875 avocado saplings was simply because one of his young children, Zoe, loved avocados!
Hass & Zutano: A Perfect Match We grow two varieties of avocados here at the EZE Farm; Hass and Zutano. These two avocados are the perfect orchard partners. Hass is a Type A avocado and Zutano is Type B, meaning their flowers open at different times, helping each other pollinate and often producing bigger harvests by working together. While Hass is the creamy, dark-skinned avocado you'll find in nearly every grocery store, Zutano is a hidden gem. With its smooth green skin, remarkably larger size, lighter texture, and fresh, buttery flavor, it has earned a devoted following of super fans. So why isn't Zutano in stores? Its thin skin bruises extremely easily and doesn't ship well, making Hass the commercial favorite. If you're fortunate enough to know a farmer or grow a tree to get your hands on a fresh, tree-ripened Zutano, you'll discover why so many people swear by them. |

Ever Wonder Why Some Egg Yolks Are More Orange Than Others?
The rich golden and deep orange color of the yolk comes from a chicken's diet. Our free-ranging hens spend their days foraging for grasses, seeds, bugs, and other natural treats, then come back to the coop for some dry mix to further fortify and round out their diets, creating vibrant yolks that are as beautiful as they are delicious. As for the shell color of an egg, that simply depends on the breed of the hen. Our eggs come in a variety of pretty shades ranging from white, brown, tan, green, speckled, and sometimes blue! The shell color, although fun to collect and admire, does not affect the quality of what's inside the egg. Eggs are one of nature's most nutritious foods, packed with high-quality protein, healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals. We believe happy chickens lay better eggs, so our flock spends their days roaming the farm, scratching, exploring, and occasionally hiding eggs in unexpected places. Every now and then, we'll stumble upon a secret nest that leads to a surprise batch of fluffy baby chicks wandering the farm! |
